Juvederm Q&A

What is Juvederm?

Dr. Modlin uses Juvederm to smooth facial lines around your mouth, nose, and forehead. He can also use the fillers to contour your face, adding volume to your cheeks or reducing the appearance of acne scars. Juvederm also works to plump your lips.

Juvederm is a family of dermal fillers that use hyaluronic acid rather than collagen to plump up your skin. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in your body that helps to maintain the moisture and nutrients found in your skin. This compound contributes to your skin’s volume and smoothness.

Unfortunately, as you age, your skin's ability to manufacture its own hyaluronic acid declines. Juvederm replenishes the hyaluronic acid that has been absorbed into your body over time.

In addition to this decline in hyaluronic acid, you also start to naturally lose volume in your cheeks, causing them to flatten and your skin to sag. Juvederm VolumaⓇ is a dermal filler designed specifically with this problem in mind. It works by adding volume to your cheeks, helping you achieve a more youthful appearance.

What happens during a dermal filler treatment?

First, you and Dr. Modlin discuss the areas you’re looking to improve and the results you hope to achieve.

During the Juvederm treatment, Dr. Modlin numbs the treatment area with a topical anesthetic cream, to ensure you’re comfortable during the procedure, and injects the dermal filler. Typically, the treatment session lasts about 30 minutes.

Dr. Modlin recommends that you don’t take any anti-inflammatory medications or aspirin for 1-3 days prior to your treatment session. You shouldn’t wear makeup to your appointment; however, once the procedure is complete you can return to your normal skin care and makeup routine.

How long do the effects of Juvederm last?

The effects of Juvederm are immediate and typically last 6-9 months. However, it’s not uncommon for the results to last longer before your body eventually and naturally absorbs the hyaluronic acid. At this time, you can return for a retreatment.

Some patients receive Juvederm in combination with Botox to achieve an even more dramatic effect. Call Dr. Modlin today or schedule an appointment online to see if Juvederm is right for you.
